Any suggestion for helping grow back a dogs coat? We are already feeding her canade and that seems to help a lot.She also gets brushed daily. We also give her a bath in a the oatmeal wash and conditioner from petco. She has a bald strip on her back. The hair has started to grow back already, but I want to help her in any way that i can. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Hair growth problem.?
You might get more answers if you provided a history and singlement of your pet. There are some breeds like Pomeranians that suffer from an illness called Alopecia X that is caused by an over secretion of sex hormones. Neutering or spaying usually solves the problem.
Your pet could also be suffering from a number of immune or endocrine illnesses, external parasitism or allergies.
If your pet is intact, your should have her spayed as hormones are a stress on the body and spaying her will eliminate this stress (which also suppresses the immune system). Demodecosis is a condition brought on by immune suppression. Thyroid and Cushings Disease are two endocrine related diseases that cause poor hair growth. Likewise, liver failure can also disrupt normal hair and skin growth, however these dogs are usually very painful as well.
External parasitism like fleas or mites can cause hair loss as well a fungal infection like ringworm.
Inhaled allergies and food allergies can also play a role in hair loss as it causes inflammation.
You should have your pet evaluated by a veterinarian to get to the root (no pun intended) of the problem. It may be more than just what you see on the surface.
