You should also ask your boyfriend/mom/whoever to massage your scalp - believe it or not, this actually encourages hair growth as well.
I don't know how well they work, but, GNC sells hair vitamins specific for men and women. I'm a 54 year old man and my hair is full on top and between my belt and my knees. I take no vitamins, just a balanced diet . It took ten years to get to this length.dont keep trimming it. I've always heard if you trim it it will grow faster, ';old wives tale'; it's dead as soon as it leaves the follicle. As far as split ends, I use Aussie or Pantene, and be very gentle when brushing it out.My wife usually does this.Try the GNC vitamins, all their products I've tried are really good. I've also heard that pre-natal vitamins work well, but I'm not certain.Good Luck.
