Is washing your hair and allowing it to air dry healthy for trying to achieve maximum hair growth?

I'm Black and have shoulder length, coarse, frizz-proned, very dry hair. I get relaxers about every 6-8 weeks. When I want to wear it straight: I shampoo and condition, then flat iron and curl. But on days when I feel like being lazy, I just wash and allow to air dry. The result is loose ringlets/waves. Yet when it completely dries, it is dry looking. I use a leave conditioner (Giovanni's Direct Leave-in). I also use a serum. I am assuming that this low maintainance ';style'; is probably best for the health of my hair (to achieve maximum growth) since no heat is applied to it. What do you think? Is there any room for improvement? Also, what do think I should do keep the low maintainance style cute, shiny and in a healthy-state; I'm thinking about wearing this style more often this summer. Is washing your hair and allowing it to air dry healthy for trying to achieve maximum hair growth?
I don't think it will make it grow more, but it definitely is less damaging, no matter what they teach at cosmetology school. You will achieve max hair growth by keeping it trimmed regularly and maybe consider adding protein to your diet (that sometimes helps). Get a good stylist who knows a lot about ethnic hair and can recommend good products to use and how to get your hair growing! Is washing your hair and allowing it to air dry healthy for trying to achieve maximum hair growth?
hair growth really has nothing to do with what you are talking about. now it is true that the hair stays in a healthier condition when you don't apply as much heat, but it is talking about the ends of your hair and that it is not spliting. growth has to do with your blood and oxygen and nerves....

use redken ringlet, it is a curl perfector. so when your hair dries natural, it will do it with a less dry look... it is a good professional product...good luck
Don't listen to your first response (Angelia) she has no idea what she's talking about... the reason why her friend's hair gets tangled from air drying is because it's damaged from either heat or chemicals or maybe both.. constant tangles are a sign that your hair is damaged. Especially, when it easily gets tangled for no reason. Airdrying is the healthiest thing you can do for your hair. To Angelia .. tell your friend to stop damaging her hair and fix it by airdrying and laying off the chemicals =]
Applying heat directly to your hair is NEVER good... but acceptable. You should perm your hair no less than 8 weeks. I have a natural ( I'm african btw ) and if your hair is very dry you need to use some type of conditioner that has oil in it. Also make sure you're eating a balanced diet and drinking PLENTY of water because what goes inside you reflects everything outside. Hope this helps.

I am mixed and my sister has similar hair to yours, it sounds like. Of course, it is much better for you to air dry your hair. Heat, especially constant heat dries out moisture from hair so heat damage can occur much easily. In the summer I wear my hair curly a lot of times and let it air dry with some products in it to hold curls in it. It is always important to let your hair take a break from the heat. So, I would put some mositurizing product or something to keep it from looking dry. I have to do the same thing or my hair looks dried up! I have pretty long hair mostly because I try to give it breaks and don't put too many chemicals in it. Shine products make a really good mousse that I use, that I believe is for Black people because it is in the ethnic hair section at the store. I use it and it works great for my hair and helps with the frizzies.
This is the best advice I've found for being a long-hair.

Read it carefully and follow it as much as you can.

I, personally, avoid blow-drying like the plague. When your hair is this long, it can actually cause tangles; and tangles lead to breaks. I also try really hard to skip the flat-iron (even though I love how my hair feels when it's straight). I use a shampoo %26amp; conditioner everyday, a 3-minute conditioning treatment once a week, and leave-in conditioner daily. I just let my hair air-dry and be crazy curly. When I want a little more shine, I use Brilliant Brunette Shine Shock, too.
I am multi-racial and my hair is thick, long, wavy and super curly. I wash my hair, deep condition it and let it air dry. Then I will flat iron it if I want to wear it straight. I don't use a flat iron or curling iron unless it's necessary. I believe that letting it air dry is best : ) It will help prevent less breakage as well. When I want to wear it naturally curly I just wash it, deep condition it and use a oil moisturizer. You should try Loreal Oil Free Moisturizer. That's what I use when I wear my hair natural.

Good Luck and Best Wishes!!
